About
Idraak إدراك
Essays on Islamic thought, practice, and the life of the heart.
Idraak means perception: grasping a thing as it actually is, rather than as a summary of itself. That is the whole ambition of this site.
What this is
Long-form essays on Quran, hadith, fiqh, seerah, and the inner life. Most pieces take fifteen to twenty minutes to read, and they are written on the assumption that you would rather understand one thing properly than skim five.
There is no publishing schedule. Essays appear when they are ready, which is sometimes weekly and sometimes not.
How to read it
Everything is free and always will be. There is an RSS feed if you prefer to follow that way, and the archive is browsable by date or by topic.
A note on sources
Quranic verses are given in Arabic with a plain English rendering rather than a formal translation. Hadith are referenced by their well known collections. Where scholars differ, the aim is to say so rather than to present one position as settled.
Corrections are genuinely welcome, particularly on matters of attribution.
